William Yates (1727-1808) served as private in the North Carolina militia. He was born in Virginia; died in Wake County, N. C. [North America, Family Histories, 1500-2000 D Daughters of the American Revolution Lineage Book : NSDAR : Volume 142 : 1918]

Based on Wake and Chatham Co deeds, William Yeats/Tapp purchased land from Absalon Harwood. This is most probable the same Absalon Harwood listed above. The William listed as "neighbor" to William Yeats in the 1790 census is probably the another son of Absalon or the son of Joseph (above). William is probably the father of the Harwood's that married Yates in Wake County NC."
