Also the Deposition of Joseph Lasswell taken at the same time and place to be read in the same suit this deponent being of Lawful age and being duly sworn deposeth and sayeth that he has been acquainted with Richard Murphy's family about forty two years and at his first acquaintance with said Murphey he had no negroes and he understood by said Murphey that there was a degree conveying them to his wife from her father then living in Virginia and as well as this deponent recollects said Murphey and his wife went to Virginia and on their return back again they brought with them two negroes one by the name of Harry , the other by the name of Phillis and I understood by said Murphey that he the said Murphey got them from his wife's father Benjamin Terry,
Quest by Complainants; Do you recollect that the above mentioned Phillis had a child named Ciller?
And by Deponent; Yes I do recollect I think Cealler is about 35, 36, or 37 years of age at this time.
Quest by same; Do you recollect that you ever saw Fillis in a state of pregnancy previous to the birth of Cealer at the house of the defendant, Richard Murphey?
Answer by deponent; Yes I did and afterwards saw her with a young child who was called Cealer by the family of the defendant Richard Murphey and never knew said Richard Murphey to have any Negros woman but Fillis and her family.
Quest by same; Did you ever hear Richard Murphey say that Benjamin Scott, Elizabeth Scott, now wife of David Aston, and John Scott and Sarah Scot now the Wife of Zadock Rigs and Lucy Scot, now the wife of Arthur Scritchfield, war the children of the said Richard Murphy's wife.
Answer by deponent; Yes I have heard Richard Murphey say they were his wife's children Repeated by; Quest by same; Did you ever hear Richard Murphey the Deft say that he the said Richard Murphey married the Widow Scott?
Answer by Deponent; Yes I have often heard him say he did and further the Deponent sayeth not

Also the Disposition of Eunice Lassfield taken at the same place & time to be read as Evidence in the same tort this Deponent being of Lawful age and Duly Sworn; Deposeth & sayeth that I have been acquainted with Richard Murphy's Family upwards of thirty years as well this Deponent recollects 35 or 36 years past; She saw a Negro child called Celar suck a Negro woman by the name of Filly who was then in the possession of Richard Murphey 6 Deft
Question by the same com? Did you ever hear Richard Murphey the Deft say that he got the said Filly by his wife's fathers estate.
Answer; Yes I have repeatedly
Question by the same; Did you ever hear Richard Murphey the Deft say that the negroes was all to be equally divided amongst his wife's children at her death.
Answer; Yes I did & father this Deponent sayth not
